Twitter Fact Checks Joe Biden After He Accuses Platform of “Spewing Lies”
For the second time in the space of a week, Twitter has ‘fact checked’ a post by the Biden Administration concerning gas prices.
Biden again fell foul of Twitter’s ‘Birdwatch’ system, with a post that read “Right now, the most common price at gas stations across the country is $3.19 per gallon. That’s progress.”
A note was added to the post, offering more context from readers.
“Biden is referring to the ‘most common gas price’ as opposed to the average gas price of $3.800 (11/6/22). The most common is the ‘mode’ gas price. Neither are wrong and politicians tend to reference the one that is lower. The mode diminishes high gas states from the equation,” the note reads.
The added context also provided links to the American Automobile Association website and a Wall Street Journal article that lays out exactly what the mode and average gas prices are.

However, at time of writing the fact check now appears to have been withdrawn.
Others were not so… diplomatic in their responses to Biden:
This is like bragging about lower radiation levels in Hiroshima in 1946.

That’s a lie. You have caused the highest inflation in our lifetime. We will vote you out!

Gas prices are almost currently almost 100% higher than when Trump was president.

The most common price? What happened to using averages?

The Biden Administration was previously flagged last week by Twitter’s Birdwatch system, which has been in effect since January 2021 but now seems to be being applied more frequently.
As we highlighted, the White House quickly deleted a tweet claiming seniors are to receive big Social Security increases after Twitter placed a fact check warning on it, noting that other readers had some added “context” to share.

Biden himself claimed on Friday that “now what are we all worried about, Elon Musk goes out and buys an outfit that… spews lies all across the world.”
Biden added “There’s no editors anymore in America. There’s no editors. How do we expect kids to be able to understand what is at stake?”
Musk, meanwhile, has officially announced the implementation of the $8 Blue Check plan that detractors, including Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, were fretting about last week.
Twitter verified launches at $8 a month after midterms.
Here is @elonmusk discussing, “You will get a lot more than just a blue checkmark. You will get long form video, long audio, podcasts, prioritized search, replies. We can also start sharing revenue with content creators” pic.twitter.com/wkEtMM5hcX

Elon Musk got more improvements done on Twitter in less than ten days than the previous team accomplished in five years. Let that sink in.

Musk has also made it clear that impersonation on the platform, without clearly being marked as satire or parody, will not be tolerated, and that rules that were already in place will be enforced.
Going forward, any Twitter handles engaging in impersonation without clearly specifying “parody” will be permanently suspended

Any name change at all will cause temporary loss of verified checkmark

Twitter’s rules on what distinguishes parody from impersonation are pretty straightforward.
They were doing it on purpose and in spite of Musk’s warning and the Left is outraged.
Where have they been for the past 7 years defending the thousands who were arbitrarily banned? https://t.co/oiwFz9EGqa

Some leftists, angry with Musk’s announcements, purposefully changed their names to ‘Elon Musk’ and their profile picture to match Musk’s, then put out sarcastic tweets.
This resulted in their accounts being suspended:
‘Twitter’s a private company, and can ban who it wants.’ https://t.co/oF1RyPOPk8

I love how all these blue-checks who’ve been advocating greater censorship for years are suddenly citing Supreme Court cases to maintain that any removal of fraudulent accounts would violate First Amendment principles. https://t.co/FpmbxcNoyu

This tweet is misinformation. Ethan Klein did not show that his account was a parody in his handle. The rules state clearly that you must indicate it in both your bio/header as well as handle. https://t.co/h8KGC4Xj0f

H3H3 spent the past 5 years celebrating every unjustified Twitter suspension, up to and including the President of the United States. But now wants us to break out the sad fiddles for his.
I’d tell Ethan Klein to chin up, but he’d need to have one first.— RazörFist (@RAZ0RFIST) November 7, 2022
In the pre-2016 days impersonating someone was one of the only things that could get you suspended on Twitter. Anyone who was around back then knows this

Where was this fervor for the First Amendment when Twitter was suspending meme accounts for posting jokes and The Babylon Bee over a parody? https://t.co/88TsuOmsw2
